Scrumblinis make the cut!

Posted by camanomade on January 30, 2008

Our Scrumblinis have been noticed by Lime & Violets crochet correspondent, Crochetcompulsiv!

In her first of many weekly columns, Hook Up o’ the Week Ms. Compulsiv highlighted these dear little suprise packages of yarn beautifully! In fact I’m really tickled somebody really understood the essence of the little fellas.

I like to look at the Scrumblinis cause they are so dang cute. My daughter also loves them, and keeps me spinning far more than I’d like, because she keeps using them for her trendy projects. Recently they’ve been used in full length fingerless gloves, a funkilcious hat, leg warmers, and scarves. “I only use the ones that fall on the floor, Mom” she wails. (Yeah, when you dump a bag on the floor to get to them it’s no longer a valid reason!)

Rest assured you won’t get the ones that fall on the floor when you order a pack from me!

Thank you Dawn! Rock on and may you have mucho success in your column!! You represent the Crochet Liberation Front well!! I look forward to reading next week’s column!

Updates…The Book, The CLF and CMHS YARN & DESIGNS

Posted by camanomade on January 29, 2008

Ok, needless to say I’m spread a little thin right now ;) LOL…But, I am about to restructure everything. Still plugging away at my book…getting there. The delay isn’t a bad thing, it’s going to be a more informative book! As you know I’ve made the CLF more than just a Ravelry.com group, I’ve made it real…It’s going to be more real too, with a website and everything! And of course a new book hopefully coming out in the fall!!

I’m also working on CMHS Yarn & Designs website…If you’ve been to my etsy store you’ll have noticed it’s a litle sparce. Well, that’s because I’m making my own store on the website. It’s just also taking some time (figuring out how to make the customizable yarns easier to order!)…eventually I wll not be using Etsy at all. I think it is a nice site, however if I have to spend that much time marketing my work, well I’ll do it on my own website ;)

So keep your eyes pealed!!

Just to prove she does more than cats!

My best friend Bec Thomas is rather amazing as a photographer. Sadly, she keeps getting notority for her cat photos (which are freakin awesome cool) which makes her some way peevish. She is a nature photographer par excellence.

She found this little beauty at Camano Island State Park on the North Beach.

However, she does have two of her cat photos in the Snohomish County Art Council’s “Pets on Parade” show in Everett, WA right now.
The event is open to the public, and you too, could own a Bec Thomas original photograph! You’ve never seen prints that clear!

Spanish Square Motif

Posted by camanomade on January 23, 2008

Well, just what I needed, new yarn to play with! LOL My wonderful Secret Santa sent me beautiful, wonderful LACEWEIGHT mohair yarn from Spain.

Man it is the good stuff! It’s the best commercial mohair i have yet to work with! Normally I have to help shear the dang goat to get the good stuff!

In honor of the package originating from Spain, I am making a shawl for myself out of the Spanish Square motif, and I will edge it with a fillet edging I fell in love with out of one of the THREE Spanish crochet magazines she sent me!

Woweeee! I can just say I’m spoiled like nobody’s business!

The squares are actually much more even than pictured, it’s yet another bad photo editing job on my part! LOL

Is it Semptember YET?

Posted by camanomade on January 20, 2008

I think I’m silly giddy…Nope, I know I’m giddy! Last night I was reading my lastest CGOA newsletter (included with my Crochet Mag subscription, as a member of CGOA) and what did I spy? The Knit and Crochet Show in the Fall will be held in PORTLAND, OREGON!!!! (Screaming like a pre-teen girl at a pop concert)

I am so jazzed by this. My faithful readers will know that I was born and raised not far from Portland and have a ton of friend’s and family in the area. So, going down is so tough! And here I was thinking that it just wasn’t gonna happen for me this year. I’ve been trying to think of ways to get to Oakland, and not sure I want to fly again, cause man is it a hassle…

Now, all I’ll have to do is load up the minivan! WHOOT! I’ll have at least two passengers with me, my mentor and teacher Ann, and my lovely daughter. She’s just as excited! I’m thinking about taking a vendor’s booth this time too, representing my company CMHS Yarn and Designs and of course our own beloved Crochet Liberation Front…How cooooool would that be?

So, are you with me? Are you coming! Let’s prove to the CGOA board that having the West Coast show is WORTH having in Portland! (Seattle would be ok too, but I actually prefer driving five hours south to PDX and dealing with parking there over parking in Seattle!)

CALLING ALL CROCHETERS!

Posted by camanomade on January 18, 2008

Ok folks! It’s time…WE NEED YOU! The stastics on Ravelry are appauling! Only 4% of those who responded to a survey prefer hooks! Now, 11% preferred both needles and hooks, but you know we need more crocheters! We need your help, we need you to come and show what crochet is all about!

So if you haven’t signed up yet, do so tonight, today, tomorrow, but sign up! Get your invite and then come on in and join the CROCHET LIBERATION FRONT HEADQUARTERS GROUP! We’re out for global domination, and I think we should work on Ravelry first…(WINK)…For the love of all that is fuzzy, join the ranks!

Me an my Lulu!

Posted by camanomade on January 18, 2008

I have decided to continue my sale prices as normal prices on Lulu! Why? Well, heck it’s downloads, why not keep them really affordable? I have a new pattern to put up, the cape I made for my daughter is finally transcribed and formated. I’ll hopefully have it up for grabs tomorrow evening.

So if you haven’t been by the shop or you haven’t picked up those patterns, or the Secrets of Yarn (c) Project Guide I/II why not stop by!

Sara’s Boot Laces

Posted by camanomade on January 16, 2008

So, I went to Portland for my dear friend Melissa’s wedding a weekend ago. Of course hubby and I HAD to stop at Powell’s Books before heading back home!

I picked up a copy of “Get your crochet on! Fly Tops & Funky Flavas” by Afya Ibomu for my 14 year old daughter, Sara.

She loved the “Phat Laces” pattern, for making your own shoe laces. Sara suggests when making laces for your combat boots to increase the base chain to 200 :)

This is a great book with some very simple patterns. And I have to say I was relieved to find a book by a crocheters crocheter! In fact it is an independant publication that is not beholden to any yarn company, and so all Ms. Ibomu does is give you the ideal yarn size for the project as seen in the book. However, she also encourages experimentation and how to change guage with different yarn sizes!

Indeed a brilliant and fashionable book. My teenager loves it :)

I like the shoelace idea too, and had one of those “WHY! didn’t I think of that?” moments.
