Crochet Shell with handspun feather novelty trimbowler.jpgalpaca wool hatBest Friend Socks Crochet has a bad rap. Crochet will continue to have a bad rap until we move away from the nasty scratchy polyester yarns, that make NO GARMENT look good. Nasty and scratchy have their place folks, but not in hats, scarves, sweaters or anything else that can and is worn on a body. Am I saying you should only work in cashmere? No. Though I do enjoy the thought of floating on gossamer clouds of high quality cashmere, it is not required of all projects. In fact, there are a lot of synthetic yarns available that aren’t nasty, scratchy, and oh please get away from burnt umber and orange and avacado. We have grand colors at our disposal now. Please for all of us hooker sisters, for our reputations…help me to  STOP THE UGLY.

I hear you, sister, on that one. The words Red Heart gives me hives. There are so many gorgeous yarns available there is no reason to work with something that is basically spun plastic…. in bad colors.
